How to book a learner's licence test in South Africa

The booking flow, online and in-person, with the documents and fee you need on the day.

The general process

  1. Decide which licence code you're testing for (most learners: Code B for cars).
  2. Book online via NaTIS (online.natis.gov.za) or your provincial portal, or walk into your nearest DLTC.
  3. Pay the test fee (R240–R250 depending on province).
  4. Take a free or paid eye test before the booking, or do it on the day.
  5. Arrive 30 minutes early with ID, proof of residence, two photos, fee receipt and eye-test certificate.
  6. Sit the 65-question multiple-choice test (1-hour limit).
  7. Get your result the same day. Learner's licence card issued within 6-8 weeks.
