DLTC demand follows the academic calendar. Plan around the rush.

Peak demand (long waits)

  • January: matrics finished, ready to learn to drive. 6-12 week waits in metros.
  • June-July school holidays: parents push their teenagers to test. 8-12 week waits.
  • November-December: end-of-year scramble. 4-8 week waits.

Quiet windows (short waits)

  • March: post-summer-holiday slump. 2-4 week waits in metros.
  • September: Spring break ends, university back. 2-4 week waits.
  • Late October — first week of November: brief lull before the December rush.

By province

  • Northern Cape and Free State: shortest waits year-round (2-3 weeks typical)
  • Gauteng: longest waits year-round (often 10-16 weeks in metros)
  • Western Cape: medium, with Cape Town Civic Centre worst

Strategy

If you can plan ahead, book in March or September. If you're driving a deadline (work, study), book the moment you have a passing learner's — slots disappear fast.
